Today’s Meeting Between Party Leadership and Alia, Akume Loyalists

The scheduled meeting today between the National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress and Benue senators, House of Representatives members, as well as party stakeholders aims to address the ongoing feud between Governor Hyacinth Alia’s loyalists and George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

For more than a year, the Benue chapter of the APC has been in turmoil as various political figures vie for control of the party.

Austin Agada has been leading the faction aligned with Akume, while Benjamin Omakolo has been overseeing the Alia faction.

Nze Chidi Duru, the National Deputy Organising Secretary of the APC, revealed in an interview on Monday that the party leadership plans to engage with numerous disgruntled members and key stakeholders at the national APC headquarters on Tuesday.

He commented, “I am not aware of any sanctions being discussed. Our focus is on the meeting with Benue stakeholders tomorrow, particularly with the senators and House of Representatives members from the state at 10 am.

Following that, a session is scheduled with the recently appointed Benue APC caretaker committee at 2 pm at the party’s Abuja secretariat.

“Regarding the matter you raised, I have no current information. Our priority is the meeting with Benue APC stakeholders on Tuesday.”

The political crisis within the Benue APC escalated last Wednesday when the NWC dissolved the Agada-led executives aligned with Akume.

In their place, a seven-member caretaker committee was swiftly inaugurated by the ruling party to oversee the party’s operations at the state level for the next six months.
