Tinubu emphasizes the need for partnership with FBI to combat cybercrime and terrorism

President Bola Tinubu has stressed the importance of increased collaboration between Nigerian law enforcement agencies and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States in the ongoing battle against cybercrime, terrorism, and other related illicit activities.

This call was made by Tinubu during a recent meeting with FBI Director, Christopher Asher Wray, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Also present at the meeting were key figures including National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) Yusuf Magaji Bichi, Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Brigadier-General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), and Chief of Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) Major-General Emmanuel Undiandeye, among others.

President Tinubu emphasized that the visit of the FBI director and his team to Nigeria underscores the longstanding partnership between Nigeria and the United States in the fight against financial crimes and terrorism.

He noted that combating financial crimes requires a collective effort as no single country can effectively do it alone.

Tinubu urged the United States to assist developing nations by providing necessary technology and knowledge transfer to combat sophisticated international crimes.

During his address, Director Wray expressed his visit’s purpose as strengthening the strong partnership existing between the Nigerian government and the United States government.

He commended President Tinubu for his support in fostering collaborations between various government agencies and the FBI to safeguard the citizens of both countries.

He stated, “We value the president’s strategic approach in addressing terrorism in the region, which poses a significant threat not only to regional countries but also to the United States.”
