Tinubu approves N35,000 minimum wage for civil servants

President Bola Tinubu has given his official approval for a ₦35,000 minimum wage for all federal civil servants. The announcement was made in a circular issued by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) on Thursday, Oct. 19, confirming that the wage award is effective from Friday, September 1, 2023. The circular, signed by NSIWC Chairman Ekpo U. O, refers to the Memorandum of Understanding reached between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) on Monday, 2 October 2023. It conveys the president’s approval for the wage award of N35,000:00 per month to all Federal Government workers pending the signing of a new national minimum wage into law. The implementation of the wage award for treasury-funded Federal Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies will be funded from the treasury, while non-treasury funded federal government agencies are responsible for implementing the same from their internally generated funds.
