Tinubu And I Had No Idea How Maryam Shetty’s Name Made Ministerial List —Ganduje, APC Chairman

In a recent revelation, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, has explained that the public outcry on social media against Maryam Shetty’s appointment was the reason for her removal from the ministerial nominee list.

Shetty, who was initially nominated from Kano State, was replaced by Mariya Mahmoud Mairiga Bunkure, as stated in a letter read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

Ganduje, in a radio interview with select stations in Kano, revealed that Shetty’s removal was prompted by doubts raised on her suitability for the role, particularly on social media. He emphasized the influence of social media in shaping public opinion.

According to Ganduje, the criteria for ministerial appointments include integrity, knowledge, experience, and commitment to the party, as well as the candidate’s contribution to the administration. He mentioned that the President has the prerogative to nominate candidates but also consults with state representatives.

Responding to questions about Shetty’s nomination, Ganduje clarified that her name emerged without their prior knowledge, and they were unable to assess her suitability. The criticism and dissatisfaction from the people of Kano, especially on social media, led to President Tinubu’s decision to replace her. Ganduje also indicated that they were given the opportunity to nominate a replacement, ultimately selecting Dr. Mariya Bunkure.

Ganduje emphasized that the decision was made to ensure the right fit for the ministerial role, and to address concerns expressed by the people of Kano. He reaffirmed that the explanation was not intended to offend anyone but to provide a transparent account of the situation.
