Timetable Released for Council Polls in Kwara


The timetable for the local councils poll in the 16 local government areas of Kwara State has been released by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, KWSIEC. The election is scheduled for September 21, 2024.

In a statement issued in Ilorin on Sunday, the chairman of the commission, Muhammed Baba Okanla, announced that a meeting/interface with the leadership of all registered political parties will take place on Friday, June 21, 2024. This will be followed by the political parties’ primaries elections from Monday, June 24th to June 30th, 2024.

Political parties are required to obtain and return nomination forms, KWSIEC 01 and KWSIEC 02, for the chairmanship and councilorship elections between Monday, July 1st and July 5th, 2024. The verification of candidates’ credentials is scheduled for Monday, July 8th to Friday, July 19th, 2024.

The display of names of candidates nominated by political parties will be posted on the KWSIEC notice board from Monday, July 22nd to Friday, July 26th, 2024.

The training of ad-hoc staff in all three senatorial districts will take place from Saturday, July 27th to Wednesday, July 31st, 2024,” Muhammed added.

The last day for the withdrawal of candidates, if necessary, is Monday, August 5th, 2024. The final day for the publication of the list of nominated candidates is Tuesday, August 6th, 2024.

Campaigns by political parties will commence on Monday, August 19th, and conclude at midnight on Thursday, September 19th, 2024. The elections for chairmanship and councilorship positions are scheduled for September 21, 2024.

“The collection of Certificate of Returns will take place on Monday, September 23rd, 2024,” he said.
