Thunderstorm Advisory from Ekiti State Government in Response to NIMET Forecast

In light of Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) predictions of thunderstorms in certain areas of Ekiti State, residents are urged by the Ekiti State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to stay calm and take necessary precautions.

The advisory, as conveyed in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Ajisafe-Aluko, emphasizes the importance of preparedness in the face of this natural phenomenon.

Recognizing the potential hazards associated with thunderstorms, Erelu Ajisafe-Aluko encourages residents to remain composed and implement precautionary measures to mitigate any risks.

Recommended actions by the Ministry include: finding shelter indoors until the storm passes; staying away from windows and reflective surfaces; refraining from using open flames or gas during thunderstorms; practicing safe posture and avoiding mobile phone use as metal can attract lightning.

In addition, residents are advised to reduce electrical risks by unplugging appliances to prevent damage from power surges, and maintaining a safe distance from electrical wires, poles, and other conductors.

By following these precautionary measures diligently, the Ministry assures residents of the potential to minimize or prevent casualties resulting from this year’s occurrence of thunderstorms.
