Three Members of the State Assembly in Kebbi Defect to APC

In a significant political development, three out of the four opposition members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Kebbi House of Assembly have made a switch to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

As reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, the defectors are Umar Na’amore from Argungu Constituency, Hashimu Usman from Yauri Constituency, and Yusuf Abubakar-Tilli from Bunza Constituency.

During a session at the Assembly, the Speaker Alhaji Muhammad Usman-Zuru read aloud three separate letters from the defectors, who officially communicated their decision to switch parties citing crises in their respective areas.

The former PDP members highlighted the mismanagement within their party leading to factionalization and division, which prompted them to exercise their constitutional right to join another party while retaining their seats during times of crisis.

The Speaker also presented a separate communication from Governor Nasir Idris to the house, seeking approval for Muhammad Ashiru-Garba as the new Chairman of the Kebbi Local Government Service Commission, following the passing of the former Chairman, Mansur Shehu.

Assembly members agreed to invite the appointee to appear before the house for official ratification on Wednesday.

Responding to claims of being a ‘rubber stamp assembly’ due to their cooperation with the executive branch, Speaker Usman-Zuru refuted such insinuations, emphasizing their commitment to collaboration for the development of Kebbi alongside Governor Idris’s agenda.

He praised Governor Idris for prioritizing the welfare and progress of Kebbi’s populace over personal gain, highlighting their alignment in service delivery goals and mutual accountability to steer the state towards prosperity.

While asserting their role as partners in advancing the state’s interests, Speaker Usman-Zuru reaffirmed their stance on ensuring governance transparency and adherence to the collective vision of serving the people effectively.
