Threat of Impeachment Plans against Fubara Poses a Challenge to Tinubu’s Administration in Rivers State

There are growing concerns over the unfolding crisis in Rivers State, with former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Timi Frank warning that the situation could potentially destabilize President Bola Tinubu’s government if not promptly addressed.

Frank expressed his apprehension over Governor Wike’s push for the impeachment of Siminalaya Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, by a group of defected members of the State House of Assembly. He emphasized that such a move could have severe repercussions on the stability of Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement released in Abuja on Friday, Frank urged President Tinubu to intervene and urge FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to prioritize peace, alleging that Wike is clandestinely orchestrating the installation of another Ikwere man as governor.

Frank reminded President Tinubu of Fubara’s electoral mandate from the people during the general election, cautioning against any selfish attempts to unseat him that could ignite a crisis in Rivers State, ultimately impacting the national revenue.

He accused Wike of persisting in his efforts to oust Fubara illegally, viewing it as a deliberate move to undermine the Ijaw community in Rivers State.

Highlighting the significance of Fubara’s tenure as an Ijaw governor amidst previous tenures by individuals from different ethnic backgrounds in Rivers State, Frank emphasized the need for Wike to allow Fubara to govern peacefully.

Frank, who also represents the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) in East Africa and the Middle East, underscored the importance of upholding Fubara’s mandate and ensuring that he fulfills his constitutional responsibilities without interference.

He concluded by stating, “Fubara was not elected for the sole purpose”
