There has been a recovery of the remains of a missing Benue Naval Officer who was murdered a month before his wedding, and police have arrested 11 suspects

The killers of Naval Sub Lt. David Igbashal, who was abducted on 22 February, 2020 while on his way from Calabar to Makurdi, Benue State to make arrangements for his wedding, have been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command.

 

After embarking on the ill-fated journey, late Igbashal was declared missing.

 

On April 18, 2020, the arrest was made under the leadership of Superintendent Emmanuel Ukwenya of the Zonal Anti-Corruption/X-Squad, established by Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr. Zaki Ahmed.

 

The squad, according to Mr. Nelson Okpabi, PRO of Zone 6, recovered the remains of Sub Lt. Igbashal in Omuogodu Akpu in Ngbo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. This area is in conflict with neighboring Agila village in Benue State.

“Following credible information, the team arrested five suspects in connection with the crime. They confessed to the commission of the heinous crime and led the detectives to the site where the murdered officer was buried,” stated Mr. Okpabi.

 

Investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be arraigned accordingly.

Mr. Zaki Ahmed, the AIG in-charge of Zone 6 Headquarters Calabar, offered his condolences to the Nigerian Navy for the loss of the young officer. He urged the public to adhere to Government/NCDC directives, assured them of adequate security, and encouraged them to report any suspected person(s)/incidents to the police without hesitation.

 

Late Igbashal, a recent graduate from the Nigerian Defence Academy who was posted to Calabar, was from Ikyaghev Council ward of Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State.
