Theatre Commander General Adeniyi sent back to school after viral video of him complaining about Boko Haram insurgents having more ammunition

The video of Theatre Commander General Adeniyi complaining about Boko Haram insurgents having more ammunition went viral. As a result, he has been sent back to school as a research fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) in Abuja. Major General Faruk Yahaya has been deployed to replace Adeniyi, who had been in charge of Operation Lafiya Dole since 2019.

The Nigerian Army’s spokesman, Sagir Musa, stated the new postings were a routine exercise intended to reinvigorate the system for greater professional effectiveness and efficiency. However, social media users contended that Adeniyi’s deployment was a vindictive move by Buratai because Adeniyi told an embarrassing truth.

The full statement announcing the new postings highlighted various other senior officers’ reassignments and appointments, with all changes taking effect from April 1, 2020. The Chief of Army Staff urged the officers to take their new responsibilities seriously and discharge all duties professionally with utmost loyalty to the Nation and the Service.
