The Urgency of Addressing Subordinates’ Needs, as Emphasized by the Army Chief to Commanders

Commanders in the North West region were instructed by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, on Wednesday to promptly cater to the administrative needs of their subordinates to enhance troop morale in operation theatres.

It was highlighted that fulfilling this responsibility would serve to strengthen and boost the morale of troops engaged in operations.

At the conclusion of a three-day retreat for past and present commanders of operations in North West held in Abuja, Lagbaja, represented by Chief of Operations, Maj.-Gen. Boniface Sinjen, stressed that the North West region is a vital trade hub in the country. He urged commanders to intensify efforts towards restoring peace in the area.

Emphasizing the importance of commanders in the Northwest being bold, innovative, and effective communicators, he underlined the significance of securing the region for the benefit of the entire nation due to its strategic trade positioning.

He further underscored the necessity for commanders to elevate their performance by promptly addressing the administrative needs of their subordinates to enhance the fighting capability of the army.

The army chief cited that the retreat had been instrumental in clarifying events, reinforcing positive aspects and rectifying operational deficiencies in the army’s interventions in the Northwest region.

He noted that the insights gained and recommendations put forth during the retreat would contribute to enhancing the operational efficacy of the army on the ground.

Highlighting progress made in mitigating incidents of kidnapping, banditry, and abduction in rural areas of the zone, the focus was now shifting towards addressing the movement of criminals into urban centers across the Northwest.

The primary objective of the retreat was to evaluate operational logistics, administrative factors, and foster cooperation and coordination amongst various agencies and services in the region.

He implored commanders to embrace full cooperation and collaboration in their operations, stressing the importance of synergies with other agencies and services to ensure the safety and security of Nigerian populace without fear of threats.

Maj.-Gen. Garba Wahab (retd.), the Director-General of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, highlighted that all military operations were being carried out in conjunction with other security agencies.

He articulated that the aim of the retreat was to assess the Nigerian army’s operations, analyze strengths and weaknesses, and identify areas for improvement to enhance overall performance.

He reiterated that the Nigerian military, particularly the army, possessed the capability to confront challenges but needed the collective support of stakeholders and society to achieve success.
