The UPU Youths of Urhobo Land Stand Against Protests Amid Hardship

Opting for a different approach, the Youth Wing of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) has decided to distance itself from the planned nationwide protests addressing economic difficulties in the country.

In a statement issued by the National President, Activist Blessed Ughere, known as “Osu re Ighele,” the UPU Youth Wing emphasized that participating in protests could have adverse effects and instead called upon all residents of Urhobo land to refrain from joining the protest.

The communique highlighted the security challenges currently affecting Delta Central (Urhobo Nation) and other parts of Delta State as a significant concern, suggesting that engaging in protests at this time would not be in the community’s best interest.

It was firmly stated that no support would be given to any protest organized within Urhoboland in Delta State, as such actions could escalate the existing security issues, making room for criminal elements to exploit the situation and create more unrest.

All groups and individuals were urged to abstain from arranging protests within any Urhobo kingdom in Delta State, with a specific call for Urhobo natives and residents to boycott the proposed protests.

Regarding the escalating insecurity, the communique revealed that discussions are underway between the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Youth Wing Worldwide and the Delta State Government. Recommendations have been put forward for the establishment of permanent military checkpoints in crucial areas to help address the security challenges in the state.

The UPU Youth Wing also advised citizens to exercise caution, stay vigilant, and be alert, especially in areas like Egbo along the Agbarho-Ughelli Road and the Ughelli-Patani Highway, which require immediate security measures.

In addition, leaders and stakeholders in the region were called upon to collaborate with security agencies in upholding law and order, stressing that these efforts are essential for the prosperity, peace, and development of both the state and the country.
