The Unbelievable Case of a 6-Month-Old Baby Summoned to Appear in Brussels Court

A shocking incident unfolded in Brussels as a 6-month-old baby was unexpectedly summoned to court over an alleged collection of €500 in excess rent.

The summons came from the justice of the peace in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, accusing the baby girl of collecting €500 in excess rent and failing to reimburse €660 of rental guarantee for a property rented via the Public Centre for Social Action (CPAS).

Remarkably, the events in question occurred from January to June 2019, a period preceding the baby’s birth in July.

The baby’s mother took to Facebook to express her astonishment after receiving the summons, promptly contacting the court to rectify the obviously erroneous situation.

She recounted, “A clerk confirmed that it was indeed an error, and that the situation was settled.”

However, a second letter reminding the family of the hearing’s date arrived in late January. Upon contacting the court again, she was instructed to attend the hearing on the specified date to prove her daughter’s minor status.

Troubled by the situation, she remarked, “I have no means of transportation, but I would have to go to Brussels to prove that my daughter was not even born at the time the incident took place.”

Yet, after sharing her ordeal on social media and persistently engaging with the court, she eventually received an email confirming the withdrawal of proceedings by the judge and the defendant’s lawyers.

“In his e-mail, the clerk confirmed that the hearing will not be necessary, as my daughter is not responsible for the situation given her age,” she conveyed, as reported by RTBF.
