The Threat of the EFCC to Engage Military in the Arrest of Yahaya Bello

A statement from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission reveals their intention to apprehend the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello. He is to be brought before the Federal High Court in Abuja to face the charges against him.

Interestingly, Yahaya Bello’s legal representative, Abdulwahab Muhammed, SAN, has declined to accept the legal documents on behalf of his client who is currently evading the EFCC.

The anti-corruption agency, represented by a team of lawyers headed by Kemi Pinehero, SAN, expressed their determination to enforce the arrest warrant on the ex-governor, even if it necessitates the involvement of military personnel.

In their assertion, it was stated, “The former governor will be presented in court, even if we have to resort to the use of military force. Immunity is conferred upon an individual and not a physical structure.”

“The law sanctions the breach of barriers to apprehend a fleeing defendant. Section 284 mandates all individuals to comply with the legal charges served,” he added.

Further information will be provided in due course.
