The US Secret Service has announced that President Donald Trump’s protection detail has shot dead a 20-year-old man who was trying to enter, presumably armed, the president’s residence in Florida, Mar-a-Lago.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. local time (7:30 a.m., time in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands), when the young man was detected at the north door of the property “carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a can of fuel,” according to a statement from the Secret Service.
Secret Service agents and an agent from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) “confronted him and opened fire” on the young man. At the time of the incident there was no person present under the protection of the security device.
The details of the incident are under investigation, the identity of the deceased young man is currently kept secret, pending family notification, and the agents involved have been provisionally removed from service while the investigation continues.
