The resolution of the constables recruitment disagreement between the Police and PSC

The Nigeria Police Force has agreed to the list of successful applicants for the 2022 constable recruitment exercise released by the Police Service Commission.

A disagreement arose between the two organizations when the PSC released the list of 10,000 successful applicants for constable and specialist cadre roles in the Nigeria Police Force on June 4.

Initially, the police had rejected the list, citing corruption and irregularities in the recruitment process.

Subsequently, the commission stood firm on not canceling the list, leading the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, and other stakeholders to intervene in the situation.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, announced that both organizations had reached a mutual agreement on the final list.

According to Adejobi, the agreement followed extensive discussions with the PSC to resolve the matter amicably.

The Police spokesman also highlighted that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, expressed confidence in the newly recruited constables contributing to national security efforts.

Adejobi emphasized, “The Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission have now resolved the final merit list for the recruitment of Police Constables. Through collaboration, transparency, fairness, and merit-based considerations were the focus of the discussions between both organizations.”

“The Inspector General of Police expressed satisfaction with the agreement, underscoring the commitment of both entities to the nation’s best interests.”

Adejobi stated that the recruits would also help fulfill the Federal Government’s employment goals, enhance internal security, and uphold law and order.

Following the IGP’s directive, the newly recruited constables would undergo training on contemporary policing ethics and principles.

As part of the development, the training program for the officers is set to commence on Saturday, August 10, 2024. It will be thorough, aiming to equip them with the necessary skills and values to carry out their duties effectively.

Moreover, the trainees will receive instruction on modern policing methods, community engagement strategies, ICT, artificial intelligence, human relations, and behavioral standards.

The Inspector General of Police extended appreciation to all stakeholders and the public for their patience and cooperation throughout the process.
