The Resolution of Conflict between Nigeria Police and PSC Regarding Successful Applicants Post-2022 Recruitment

After the 2022 constable recruitment exercise, the Nigeria Police Force has finally accepted the list of successful applicants released by the Police Service Commission.

Initially, there was a dispute when the PSC announced a list of 10,000 successful applicants for constable and specialist cadre roles on June 4, leading to tensions between the two organizations within the Nigeria Police Force.

The police had raised concerns about corruption and irregularities in the recruitment process and rejected the list.

However, the Commission stood firm on not canceling the list, which prompted the intervention of the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, and other stakeholders.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, clarified that following extensive discussions with the PSC, both organizations had reached a mutual agreement on the list.

According to Adejobi, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, expressed confidence in the new constables contributing significantly to national security.

He also mentioned that the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission had finally resolved their differences regarding the final merit list for the recruitment of Police Constables, ensuring transparency, fairness, and merit-based selection.

The Inspector General of Police conveyed satisfaction with the resolution, highlighting it as a demonstration of both organizations’ commitment to working together for the country’s benefit.

He expressed optimism about the recruits making meaningful contributions to the government’s efforts to create employment opportunities for Nigerian youths and enhance internal security and law enforcement.

Following the IGP’s directive, the newly recruited constables are scheduled to undergo training in modern policing ethics and principles starting on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

The training program aims to equip the recruits with essential skills and knowledge for effective duty performance while upholding the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.

As part of the training, the recruits will receive instruction on modern policing ethics, community policing strategies, ICT, artificial intelligence, human relations, and behavioral change.

The Inspector General of Police extended gratitude to all stakeholders and the public for their patience and support throughout the recruitment process.
