A flight from Izmir to Sabiha Gökçen airport in Istanbul skidded off the runway during landing on Wednesday, resulting in a crash that injured 21 people in Turkey.

Transport minister, Cahit Turhan, reported that the plane broke into three pieces after a rough landing, with no fatalities reported.

Istanbul governor, Ali Yerlikaya, confirmed that the aircraft was carrying 171 passengers and six crew members from Izmir.


Yerlikaya further stated that 21 people were taken to the hospital by emergency response teams and evacuation efforts were ongoing.

Footage from Turkish media depicted the fractured plane alongside the runway, with numerous emergency response personnel attending to passengers and transporting them on stretchers.

Turkish Airlines also announced the cancellation of all flights to and from Sabiha Gökçen on Wednesday.
