The PDP’s Reaction to the Ousting of David Lyon in Bayelsa and Its Continuous Demand for Imo Election Judgment Rectification

The recent Supreme Court ruling that removed David Lyon as the winner of the Bayelsa Governorship election and instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a new certificate of return to its candidate, Senator Duoye Diri, has prompted a response from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement released by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, the opposition party emphasized that the victory in Bayelsa will not deter its pursuit of rectifying purported errors in the Supreme Court’s judgment on the Imo state governorship election.

The statement expressed:

“The party states that the Bayelsa judgment will not alter its insistence that the Supreme Court rectifies the errors in its judgment on the Imo state governorship election.

“Our party reaffirms that the Supreme Court can restore confidence in its infallibility by reviewing the Imo verdict, considering the multiple unjustifiable mistakes in that judgment.

“The PDP reiterates that the miscarriage of justice in the Imo state judgment is evident, as the panel assumed the roles of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by recognizing the votes manipulated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senator Hope Uzodimma, resulting in an increase in the total number of votes in the election to 950,952, exceeding the INEC certified total accredited votes of 823,743.”
