The PDP in Edo State elects Governor Godwin Obaseki as its governorship candidate

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has been chosen as the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for the upcoming September 19 governorship election.

Obaseki secured the party’s nomination during the primary held at the Samuel Ogbemudia International Stadium Benin City on June 25.

His victory came after his main rivals in the race, Ken Imasaugbon and Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, withdrew from the race just minutes into the primary election.

As the PDP’s candidate, Obaseki will now contend against his political rival Osagie Ize-iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other candidates in the upcoming election.

In the 2016 election, Ize-iyamu was the PDP’s candidate while Obaseki, supported by his former political mentor, Adams Oshiomhole, ran under the APC and emerged as the winner.
