The opposition of PRP towards the possible relocation of US and French military bases to Nigeria

Expressing disapproval, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has raised concerns regarding the proposed relocation of United States and French military bases to Nigeria.

Emphasizing on the importance of safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and security, the party cautioned both the authorities and the Nigerian populace about the potential hazards involved.

In a statement released on Monday by Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, the Nigerian government was advised against engaging in any agreements that could pave the way for the establishment of foreign military bases within the country.

Highlighting the possible repercussions, the party stated, “The integration of foreign military bases on Nigerian territory might gradually weaken our national sovereignty.”

Pointing out the security risks that may arise from the relocation of these bases, including unforeseen consequences and local resistance, the PRP stressed the importance of evaluating the situation thoroughly.

The party also voiced its reservations regarding the economic impact of hosting foreign military installations, citing concerns about the strain on Nigeria’s already limited resources and the potential escalation of dependence on external aid.

Moreover, the PRP argued that accommodating these troops, maintaining infrastructure, and addressing security challenges could further burden the country’s constrained resources.

Expressing apprehensions about the potential strain on diplomatic relations with other African nations and the looming threat of regional instability, the party urged the Nigerian government to focus on internal security requirements and fortify its defense capabilities instead of relying on foreign powers.

Warning against the possible consequences of such a decision on national sovereignty, security, environment, and economy, the PRP strongly advocated for rejecting any proposals concerning the relocation of foreign military bases to Nigeria. The party emphasized the significance of diplomacy, regional collaboration, and sustainable development in the country’s strategic planning.
