The Ogun State House of Assembly Calls for Constructive Engagement with Youths amid Planned Protest

In a message to Nigerian youths, the Ogun State House of Assembly has emphasized the importance of engaging in constructive dialogue with the government instead of resorting to protests. The assembly highlighted that the challenges faced by the country are not unique to Nigeria but are also prevalent in other nations.

During a recent plenary session, the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide, addressed the issue of the planned protest, which was raised by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye, under the topic of “matters of urgent public importance.”

Speaker Elemide urged the youth to refrain from actions that could disrupt the existing peace and harmony in both the state and the nation as a whole.

He acknowledged the right of the youth to engage in peaceful protests but emphasized the importance of ensuring that such protests do not infringe upon the rights of others. Elemide pointed out that all Nigerians are aware of the various challenges, from inflation to hunger, facing the nation.

Highlighting that high inflation rates are a global concern, the Speaker mentioned that the government is actively addressing the unique challenges faced by the country at all levels.

Other lawmakers, including Minority Leader Adeleye and Damilare Bello, cautioned that any planned protest should be carried out lawfully, without resorting to violence. They stressed that while youths have the right to peaceful protest, other citizens also have the right to move freely without hindrance from protests.

The lawmakers recommended collaboration between political leaders, security agencies, and youth groups to foster peace and tranquillity in the nation.
