The Official Beaded Crown Ceremony for Ladoja

Today, at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan, the former governor of Oyo State and the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, will be presented with the ceremonial beaded crown by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

This event will mark Otun Olubadan’s transition into a beaded-crown-wearing monarch in Ibadan, joining fellow kingmakers in this symbolic tradition.

NewsNow reported that Ladoja publicly announced his acceptance of the crown during a live radio program in Ibadan.

Since Ladoja’s acceptance of the crown, his residence in Bodija has been bustling with well-wishers coming to offer their encouragement and congratulations.

Notable visitors included Governor Seyi Makinde, Chief Bode Amao – the Asiwaju of Ibadanland, Chief Bayo Oyero – former President General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Chief Wole Akinwande, Yemisi Adeaga, the current President General Niyi Ajewole, Alhaji Daud Akinola – the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta states, Chief Yekini Abass – the state Babaloja General, Baales, Ibadan Mogajis led by Chief Asimiyu Ariori, market men and women.

On a recent Sunday, former minister Musiliu Obanikoro, Chief Mutiu Aare, members of Omo Ajorosun Club led by Sunday Gbenjo, and members of Borokinni Club, both home and diaspora, led by Sheikh Lukman Asukuna, visited Ladoja in unity.

A reliable palace source mentioned, “This ceremony is a significant step in upholding the existing laws of the state concerning the Olubadan Declaration and succession.

“The official communication, signed by the Olubadan, was believed to have been delivered to High Chief Ladoja over the weekend.

“The Olubadan-in-Council meeting where the beaded crown will be presented marks the first meeting of the highest decision-making body of the Ibadan chieftaincy system since the new Olubadan assumed office on July 12.

“The Olubadan has the authority over all chieftaincy matters in Ibadanland.”

It was also revealed that all preparations for presenting the beaded crown to Ladoja have been completed, with the Oluwo Afobaje of Ibadanland set to bless the crown before the ceremony.

“Additionally, the acting Governor, Bayo Lawal, might be present to hand over the staff of office and give a speech. The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, is also anticipated,” added the source.
