The Nigerian Government Considers Implementing a Program Similar to NYSC for NCE Graduates

Plans are underway by the Federal Government to establish a training initiative akin to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) specifically designed for Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) graduates.

Mr. Olawande Wisdom, the Minister of State for Youth Development, disclosed this development during the launch of the BEMORE OYO 2024 Summer Bootcamp in Ibadan on Monday.

Wisdom mentioned that the ministry is set to collaborate with the Ministry of Education to implement new training reforms, including the NYSC equivalent program for NCE graduates and other eligible individuals.

He noted that while social vices have existed for a considerable time, the training programs provided by organizations like Boys’ Brigade, Girl Guides, and others have effectively steered many youths away from such negative influences.

Emphasizing the ministry’s focus on citizenship and training, Wisdom expressed the intention to reintroduce these fundamental aspects to youth development.

“While we have the NYSC in place for university graduates, what about NCE graduates and the likes?” he questioned, suggesting the need for tailored training programs that can be locally accessible without the necessity of traveling to other states for participation.

“Numerous reforms are currently in progress, aimed at instilling a renewed sense of optimism among the youth, both girls and boys,” he added.
