The Minister, Tijani, Refutes Allegations of Directing MTN and Airtel to Interfere with Networks Amid Protests

Dismissing claims, the Minister of Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, clarified that he did not instruct telecom companies to tamper with networks as nationwide protests unfolded on Thursday.

Nigerians using various networks like MTN and Airtel expressed dissatisfaction on social media over the unusually slow browsing speeds.

Suspicions arose suggesting individuals within President Bola Tinubu’s administration issued directives to telcos to disrupt the protests.

Addressing the issue on Channels TV, Tijani stated, “There’s no instruction to tamper with (phone) networks.”

Earlier in the day, Tijani expressed concern over the looting of the National Communication Commission (NCC) building in Kano State, emphasizing that it could impede the government’s efforts in promoting youth employment through technology.
