The Forum’s Initiative to Address Malnutrition and Food Insecurity

In Nigeria, the Forum of Chairpersons of Committees on Nutrition and Food Security is committed to collaborating with various stakeholders to tackle the challenges of malnutrition and food insecurity.

Through the implementation of effective laws, policies, and programs at both national and state levels, the group aims to unify legislative efforts in addressing these pressing issues.

The National Legislative Network on Nutrition and Food Security was officially launched in Abuja, with Tolulope Ige appointed as the National Coordinator/Chairman of the forum.

A key focus for the forum is to engage stakeholders, policymakers, and representatives from different sectors to combat malnutrition and food insecurity in Nigeria.

In his inaugural speech, Ige emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in achieving the forum’s objectives and addressing the persistent threats of malnutrition and food insecurity in the country.

Recognizing the detrimental impact of malnutrition and food insecurity on Nigeria’s socio-economic development, Ige highlighted the need for a unified legislative approach to these challenges.

The National Legislative Network aims to work closely with governmental bodies, NGOs, international organizations, and other relevant stakeholders to leverage resources and expertise in combating these issues.

Grateful for the trust placed in him, Ige pledged to work hand in hand with members to eradicate malnutrition and ensure food security in Nigeria.

During the inauguration event, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, represented by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, emphasized the crucial role of legislative bodies in crafting laws that promote nutritional well-being and food security.

He applauded the establishment of the network and the leadership of the forum, urging them to strive towards achieving zero hunger by 2030.

Executive members of the forum include Vice Chairmen Maina Garbu (North-East), Jude Umennajiego (South-East), Ahmed Ibrahim (North-West), Adesanya Oluseun (South-West), Umukoro Perkins (South-South), and Naalong Daniel (North-Central).

The team also comprises appointed officers: Dr. Sulaiman Fana as Secretary, Sale Jibir as Treasurer, Moses Essien as Public Relations Officer, and Onyebuchi Ogbadu as Financial Secretary.
