FG to reduce drug importation from 60% to 40%

Plans are underway by the Federal Government to decrease the importation of drugs into the country from 60% to 40% in order to boost local drug manufacturing.

During a workshop aimed at strengthening the World Health Organisation Nigeria country cooperation strategy in Abuja, Salma Anas-Ibrahim, the Special Adviser to the President on Health, revealed this development.

Ibrahim highlighted that bridging the gap in the country’s health sector is among President Bola Tinubu’s top priorities. Furthermore, other critical areas of focus include expanding and improving access to equitable healthcare services and implementing national health insurance coverage for at least 40% of Nigeria’s population to ensure that all citizens, including vulnerable groups, can benefit from it.
