The Federal Government States End to Planned Hunger Protests

In response to the planned nationwide hunger protests set for August 1 to 10, 2024, the Federal Government has announced that such actions are no longer necessary.

Addressing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized that the government is actively addressing the grievances raised by aggrieved Nigerians and ensuring food availability.

Idris mentioned, “The government is taking steps to address many of the concerns raised by protest organizers, particularly in the area of food availability and accessibility.”

He further explained, “Rice has been distributed to various centers nationwide at a subsidized price of N40,000 as a starting point. Additionally, significant investments are being made in the agricultural sector, which is expected to drive down food prices in the future.”

The minister also conveyed President Tinubu’s confidence in the government’s responsiveness to the concerns raised by the youth populace.

He added, “The introduction of student loans ensures that every young person desiring education can access it. Furthermore, the anticipated full deployment of the CNG system will address transportation challenges effectively.”
