The Federal Government Approves 13 Road Projects Worth N1.44 Trillion and Purchases 7,887 Dialysis Consumables

During the Monday session, the Federal Executive Council revisited and gave approval to 13 road projects across various states in the country, totaling approximately N1.455 trillion.

These projects were previously put on hold on July 10 due to financial constraints. The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, made this disclosure while briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

Umahi mentioned that although some projects were deferred in the recent session, the council greenlighted several others.

He stated, “Among the approved projects is the rehabilitation of the Abeokuta-Iboro-Ilaro Road in Ogun State, awarded to Strabic Construction for N57 billion.

Another approved project is the Mubi to Maiduguri Road Section Three, a total sum of N89 billion, awarded to MESSRS Decency Associates Limited.

Additionally, the Mubi to Maiduguri (Section Two) project for 42km at a contract sum of N67 billion was also approved.

Other projects include the Benin-Akure-Ilesha Road, Benin-Akure by Ilesha (Section 2), and the Angingali-Udobi-Udona-Umo-Uwana-Ubalaka road in Imo State.

The council also gave the green light to projects such as the rehabilitation of Aba-Owerri Road, Odukpani Itu in Ikot-Ekpene, Enugu-Port Harcourt, Igomu bridge, Ikot-Ekpene road in Akwa Ibom, Ore-Ondo-Akure Road, and Ofin-Oreta Road in Lagos State.

Three projects were deferred for review in the next meeting due to funding issues, including the Natalla-Boru Road in Kano State, Ojo-Odum-Okuku Road in Benue State, and the Umuahia-Aba road project in Abia State.

Furthermore, the Council approved the purchase of 7,887 dialysis consumables to improve healthcare access for individuals with kidney diseases.

The Minister of Health and Coordinating Minister for Social Work, Ali Pate, noted that the procurement aims to address the increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes.

The consumables will be distributed among seven federal tertiary hospitals, including the University of Benin Teaching Hospital and the National Hospital in Abuja.

Pate emphasized the importance of prevention alongside treatment, mentioning plans for public health screenings and lifestyle modifications to reduce future cases of kidney disease.

He elaborated, “This procurement of dialysis consumables is part of the government’s commitment to reducing healthcare costs for Nigerians suffering from chronic diseases.”
