The Federal Government announces upcoming Nigeria Creative City project

In a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, the Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, revealed that the Federal Government is progressing with plans for the establishment of the Nigerian Creative City. This initiative aims to serve as a central hub for talent development and youth empowerment.

The project is a key component of the ministry’s efforts to create a platform that will leverage creative opportunities nationwide for economic advancement.

Musawa elaborated, highlighting the vision for the Nigerian Creative City as a comprehensive facility catering to all 49 subsectors within the creative industry. The objective is to provide a conducive environment where these sectors can showcase their talents, stimulate job creation, and enhance tourism to boost national revenue.

While emphasizing the decentralized presence of the Ministry of Culture, Art, and Creative Economy across all states, Musawa emphasized that the major development of the creative city will be situated in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

She underscored the government’s role in bridging existing gaps within the industry to harness its full potential for economic growth. Musawa pointed out the $100 billion contribution opportunity that the industry presents, which necessitates government intervention for value repositioning.

The creative city is envisioned to offer inclusive development platforms covering various genres in the arts, culture, and entertainment sectors. It is expected to generate employment, business prospects, and position Nigeria as a prominent tourism destination.

The ministry intends to collaborate with state counterparts to replicate similar creative hubs at the regional level, fostering local creativity, skill development, and cultural preservation.

Musawa encouraged Nigerian youth to channel their energies into creative pursuits and cautioned against activities that could disrupt national progress. She urged them to seize opportunities within the creative sphere, with the assurance that the government is committed to safeguarding their intellectual property rights for optimal benefits.
