The electronic call-up system to be implemented at Onne Ports in September

Commencing in September, the Nigerian Ports Authority is set to introduce an electronic call-up system at the Onne Port Complex in Rivers State. This initiative is part of the authority’s commitment to improving operations and development at the Eastern Ports.

Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director of NPA, recently announced the approval of the electronic call-up system by the Federal Executive Council. The system aims to streamline activities at one of the largest oil and gas logistics hubs in West and Central Africa.

Aligned with Minister Adegboyega Oyetola’s directive from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, the NPA is working towards making the electronic call-up system operational before the end of the current quarter. Dantsoho reiterated this commitment during a visit by the executive teams of Call-Up Technology Services Limited and Forge Concepts Limited, the operators of the electronic solution.

Dantsoho emphasized the need to expedite the automation of truck traffic at Onne Port to meet the minister’s timeline. He mentioned that the electronic call-up system will seamlessly integrate into the Port Community System and the upcoming National Single Window.

Furthermore, Dantsoho stressed the importance of deploying information technology in a manner that supports sustainable energy use. The Onne Port Complex, which comprises the Federal Ocean Terminal and Federal Lighter Terminal, has experienced a notable increase in vessel and cargo traffic in recent years.

Having previously served as the Port Manager for Onne, Dantsoho is recognized for implementing innovative and investor-friendly initiatives that have contributed to the port’s continuous growth and success.

As the NPA continues to enhance its capabilities, the implementation of the electronic call-up system is expected to further improve operational efficiency and solidify Onne Port’s position as a pivotal logistics hub in the region.
