The Edo State Commissioner Faces Consequences for Disrespecting Monarch

Uyi Oduwa-Malaka, the Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, has had her honorary chieftaincy title of Uzoyare of Ozalla Kingdom revoked by HRH Nathaniel Igelugbo Omogbai, The Okpamen the IX, the Onotare of Ozalla Kingdom in Owan West local government area.

According to a statement by the Palace Spokesman, Osumah Obaze, the monarch took this action as a deterrent to others who may disrespect the throne, citing misconduct and disrespect by the commissioner for requesting the king to meet her in her car upon her arrival at the palace.

Furthermore, George Ohioma’s title of Ozemevboya of Ozalla Kingdom has also been rescinded and reserved exclusively for “Ozalla freeborns.”

The statement detailed specific instances of misconduct by the commissioner, such as openly insulting the Onotare during the Ivbamen festival, in the presence of dignitaries like the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, and Chairman of Owan West Local Government, Mr. Dickson Ahonsi. The commissioner was also accused of boasting about removing the traditional ruler from office.

Similarly, Barr. George Ohioma’s title was revoked for openly insulting and physically assaulting the Onotare and his secretary in the presence of notable figures. The title Ozemevboya of Ozalla Kingdom is now reserved solely for natives of Ozalla Kingdom, excluding individuals like Barr. George Ohioma.

The Onotare of Ozalla has banned Mrs. Uyi Oduwa-Malaka and Barr. George Ohioma from the palace with immediate effect, as a public announcement.
