ASR Africa, the philanthropic initiative of BUA Group’s Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu (CFR, CON), has commenced the construction of a N250 million sport complex for the University of Jos. This sporting facility, located at the Naraguta Campus of the university, aims to enhance the university’s readiness to host the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA). It will include amenities such as a 300-seater spectator stand, changing rooms, a lawn tennis court, and a basketball court.

During the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, commended ASR Africa’s Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for the significant intervention in providing this critical facility. He expressed how the university was initially concerned about securing funds to fulfill its nomination as the host for the NUGA games until ASR Africa’s TEGS grant came through, enabling them to host more games during the tournament.

Prof. Tanko Ishaya mentioned the university’s memorandum of understanding with the International Sports University in South Korea to develop a comprehensive sports program aimed at nurturing sports talents across the country. The newly constructed complex will aid in implementing this agreement.

Dr. Ubon Udoh, the Managing Director of ASR Africa, applauded the University of Jos’s management for their exceptional work. He highlighted that universities benefiting from the ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grant Scheme were meticulously chosen based on their leadership quality and academic excellence. Dr. Udoh assured the university of the expedited completion of the project ahead of the NUGA games, emphasizing the commitment of BUA Group’s Chairman and ASR Africa in supporting the education sector in Nigeria and Africa by offering indigenous solutions.
