The Condemnation of Violence and Police Brutality in Bauchi by PRP

Strongly denounced by the Bauchi State Chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) is what they refer to as the brutal and merciless actions carried out by security forces during the #EndBadGovernance protest in Azare Town, Katagum Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued by the State Secretary of the Party, Abdulazeez Haruna, in Bauchi on Tuesday, the party expresses its disapproval of the looting and vandalism that took place during the protest, leading to the destruction of property and harm to innocent individuals.

One particular incident highlighted by the party was the horrifying act of a police officer fatally shooting a protester in broad daylight, following the protester being severely abused by certain individuals as captured in a video.

The statement condemns the officer’s conduct as not just deplorable but also a clear indication of the prevailing culture of impunity that characterizes Nigerian society.

Hence, the PRP calls on the relevant authorities to promptly apprehend the culprits involved in the crime and subject them to the full force of the law. The party emphasizes that the treatment of citizens with such disrespect and brutality is intolerable in a democratic society.

Furthermore, they urge the government to take decisive actions to ensure accountability among security personnel and establish preventive measures to avert similar atrocities in the future.

Additionally, the PRP appeals to the National Human Rights Commission, the Police Service Commission, and other pertinent bodies to initiate an immediate inquiry into the incident and bring the responsible parties to justice.

The statement concludes by stating the party’s commitment to monitoring the situation closely and ensuring that those accountable are held responsible for their actions.
