The Competition between Oyo and Lagos in 12 Years

On Friday, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, emphasized the potential of the state’s landmass as a lucrative opportunity for investors, positioning the state to compete with neighboring states, particularly Lagos State.

The governor revealed this at the unveiling of a new radio station, Entrepreneur Radio, SEAP FM 89.1, Okeho in the Kajola Local Government Area of the state.

Represented by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, Makinde highlighted that while Lagos State has a seaport, it only possesses 3,577 square kilometers of land. In contrast, Oyo State boasts a dry port and a landmass of 28,454 square kilometers of arable land, approximately eight times larger than that of Lagos.

The commissioner pointed out that the increase in the number of radio stations from 22 to 55 within four years of Seyi Makinde’s administration is evidence of the state’s flourishing and expanding economy.

Oyelade remarked, “Similar growth is evident in the real estate and hospitality sectors. If the next administration in the state, after 2027, adheres to Makinde’s plan, the state will be positioned to compete with Lagos in the next 12 years.

“The expansion of infrastructure is underway, with strategic roads across the state being economically interconnected. Makinde has inaugurated over 200km of roads so far, setting a record in the state’s history.”

The Chairman of the radio station, Oladokun Olatunde, earlier stated that the station aims not only to keep the people of Okeho and its environs informed but also to empower them to stand out among their fellow citizens across the state.
