The Commitment of Yobe to Empowerment Initiatives

Assuring to prioritize social support through empowerment initiatives, Yobe State Governor, Mala Buni, acknowledged the challenges faced by residents.

Following a meeting with religious and traditional leaders convened by Buni, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, highlighted the administration’s awareness of the socio-economic difficulties faced by residents. The government intends to focus on social support and community engagement for necessary development.

Bego emphasized, “The Yobe State Government, led by Governor Mai Mala Buni, will continue to prioritize social support through empowerment schemes and training for youths, women, and other segments of the population to alleviate the current socio-economic challenges faced by people nationwide.

“The government will also stress community engagement through local government councils, traditional institutions, and other stakeholders to ensure that residents are well-informed about government policies and programs and are actively involved in their implementation.”

Elaborating on the resolutions of the meeting at the Government House, Damaturu, with local government council chairmen, 14 Emirs of the state, and other senior government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the Government of the state, Head of Service, Chief of Staff to the Governor, and some members of the state executive council, he stated, “The meeting highlighted the importance of local government and traditional councils addressing local community issues to strengthen trust, good neighborliness, and community cohesion. It stressed the necessity to offer more opportunities for training in skills and crafts to support individuals in starting small or medium businesses, engaging in agriculture, and food production.”

The meeting commended the state government’s empowerment support for women and youths across the state, focusing on the recent multi-billion-naira agriculture empowerment program launched by the President and represented by the Vice President. It urged the state government to ensure that the program’s benefits reach the intended beneficiaries in all 17 local government areas,” Bego concluded.
