The Commissioner for Health of Lagos State Reveals That 12 out of 14 COVID-19 Deaths Occurred in Private Hospitals

The Lagos State government has reported that among the 14 COVID-19 fatalities in the state, only two occurred in official state facilities, while the rest transpired in private hospitals or while en route to state facilities.

Professor Akin Abayomi, the Commissioner for Health, disclosed this information on Sunday, April 19, while providing an update on the state government’s efforts to control the pandemic.

He emphasized the state government’s proactive approach, stating that it is better to be over-prepared than under-prepared.

According to Abayomi, new isolation centers are being constructed to increase bed capacity, in addition to the hotel facilities provided by the state government which will be converted into isolation centers.

He urged individuals with COVID-19 symptoms not to remain at home, as doing so could exacerbate the situation.

The commissioner also mentioned that out of the 20 local councils in Lagos State, only three have not reported any cases of Coronavirus. He specified that there were no instances of the virus in Ojo, Epe, and Ajeromi-Ifelodun local councils, while Eti-Osa, Lagos Mainland, and Ikeja had the highest number of COVID-19 cases.
