The commencement of trials for suspects arrested during protests

According to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, trials for suspects who were arrested during the Endbadgovernance protests have now begun.

This action comes after the police announced on Monday that over 800 suspects had been apprehended for various offenses committed during the protests.

Egbetokun disclosed during a gathering of security agency leaders in Abuja that in Kano, suspects are currently facing trial at the police headquarters due to their large numbers.

He mentioned, “The trial of those suspects arrested during the protests has already kicked off. For instance, in Kano, a significant number of arrests have been made, leading to the magistrate relocating the trial process to the police headquarters where it is currently taking place. Those who visit the police headquarters in Kano will witness the ongoing trial of the arrested individuals. We are ensuring that they are not kept in custody indefinitely.”
