The Capital Punishment for Killing an Uber Driver

A death sentence by hanging has been passed by the FCT high court on Obinna Echanu for the murder of an Uber driver.

Obinna Echanu and Everly Nnerun stood trial for allegedly conspiring to kill Uber driver Edwin Ali on December 26th, 2016, along the Abuja airport road.

Echanu and Nnerun faced five charges, including armed robbery, conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms, and culpable homicide.

In the murder case brought forward by the Nigerian Police, Justice Peter Kekemeke acquitted Nnerun due to lack of evidence but convicted Echanu. Echanu was sentenced to death by hanging, as his counsel failed to prove his innocence in court.
