Umar Damagum, the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, extended warm wishes to Muslims on the occasion of the 2024 Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant, Yusuf Dingyadi, and distributed to the press in Sokoto on Tuesday, Damagun urged Muslims to embody the teachings of Ramadan by practicing virtues, empathy, and unity in their daily lives. He also emphasized the importance of ongoing prayers for the progress and stability of the nation.
Furthermore, he advised followers to actively discourage criminal activities and social vices within their communities.
Damagun called on parents and guardians to fulfill their roles in guiding and nurturing their children.
He highlighted the significance of Ramadan as a sacred month that instills compassion for the less fortunate and fosters a deep connection with God through fasting and prayers over thirty days.
Expressing solidarity with Nigerians, he urged for unity, trust, and mutual respect among citizens through reconciliation, forgiveness, and support in order to propel the nation forward.
Reflecting on the essence of Ramadan, Damagun stressed the need to maintain the spirit of the holy month by embracing compassion, kindness, and faith to achieve collective aspirations and blessings.
He emphasized the importance of carrying forward the positive practices post-Ramadan to sustain worship, strengthen devotion, and pursue national unity, cohesion, and progress while moving away from divisive political ideologies.
Emphasizing the message of forgiveness and reconciliation, Damagun called for sincere efforts in fostering respect and dignity amongst Nigerians to foster a peaceful and united Nigeria.
The PDP extended its felicitations to the entire Muslim community and offered prayers for divine intervention to alleviate the challenges caused by poor leadership and political discord that threaten the nation’s progress.
Underlining the significance of solidarity and goodwill, he urged for collective support to address the pressing issues of insecurity, particularly the rise in banditry activities and other security threats affecting communities nationwide.
