The Call for Economic Revival: Northeast Church Urges Tinubu

A Christian denomination spread across North East Nigeria known as Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa A Nigeria, EYN, has expressed deep concern over the current state of Nigeria’s economy, labeling it as the worst in the nation’s history.

During the recent Church’s General Council in Adamawa State, President of the EYN, Rev Joel Billi, urged President Bola Tinubu to fulfill his promise of bringing about a renewed sense of hope in the country.

Reflecting on the situation, Rev Joel Billi questioned the direction the nation is taking under the leadership of someone who came into power with the slogan Renewed Hope. He highlighted the turbulent economic conditions that have exacerbated poverty levels in the country.

According to the EYN president, the current economic downturn can be traced back to the sudden removal of fuel subsidies, the fluctuation of the naira, the unregulated foreign exchange system, and the prevalence of institutional corruption.

Casting doubt on the government’s efforts to increase workers’ wages, he raised concerns about how organizations like the church would manage to fund similar salary increments.
