The call for economic policy review directed at Tinubu by PDP

The People’s Democratic Party has urged President Bola Tinubu to speak to Nigerians regarding the economic crisis affecting the country.

In a press release issued on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP emphasized the need for an urgent reassessment of policies that are causing negative impacts on the lives of Nigerians.

Highlighting the increasing unrest and nationwide protests as a direct response to what they described as the government’s “arrogance” and “insensitivity” towards the challenges faced by citizens, the PDP stated that the situation could have been avoided if the APC had heeded previous advice to address economic difficulties and alleviate people’s suffering.

Referring to a statement from June 6, 2024, where they urged President Tinubu to pay attention to the concerns of Nigerians, the PDP warned about the potential serious repercussions of widespread hunger among the public.

Accusing the APC of worsening the crisis by allegedly employing hoodlums to incite violence, the party expressed alarm over the severe economic conditions.

The party reminded of their past attempts to advise the APC government on the state of the economy, noting the lack of positive response leading to the current situation.

Pointing out policies such as sudden fuel price hikes and the arbitrary floatation of the Naira as major contributors to the economic downturn, the PDP asserted that a government focused on the people’s welfare should have been cautious about the negative impacts of these policies.

Describing the policies of the APC administration as thoughtless and crippling to the productive sector, the PDP criticized the high inflation rate, soaring fuel prices, and escalating costs of goods and services affecting the population.

Calling attention to the issue of the APC allegedly misusing national funds while millions suffer, including the scandalous payment of a huge fuel subsidy despite previous announcements, the party demanded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the nation and initiate policy reviews to tackle the worsening economic challenges.
