The Burial Plans of Mr Ibu Unveiled by Committee, Discrediting the News of Family Seeking Fund

Preparations have been finalized for the series of events scheduled for the burial of the late Nollywood legend, John Okafor, famously known as Mr. Ibu.

The burial is slated to take place on June 28, 2024, in his hometown of Amuri, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, as reported by NewsNow.

The Central Planning Committee, along with some notable friends and family members of the deceased actor, have refuted claims that the family was seeking financial assistance for Mr. Ibu’s burial.

In a statement released to journalists in Enugu on Monday, the Committee dismissed the allegations as an attempt to portray Okafor’s family in a derogatory light as beggars.

Signed by the Committee’s Chairman, Monday Diamond Ani, the statement condemned the allegations as “manipulative, malicious, fabricated, and orchestrated by ill-intentioned individuals against Mr. Ibu, both during his illness and posthumously.”

The Committee emphasized that despite the significant financial resources spent on John Okafor’s healthcare in various Nigerian hospitals, extensive plans have been made for Mr Ibu’s burial.

These plans include a star-studded tribute performance at the Base Event Center Enugu and a novelty match to honor the late actor, among other activities.

Expected artists include Rudeboy, Flavour, Odumeje, Akpororo, Chinyere Udoma, Gozie okeke, Felix Ndukwe, Paul Nwokocha, Able Cee, Anyidons, Kola boy, and more.

Notable personalities slated for appearances include Chief Pete Edochie, MON, Osuofia, Patience Ozokwor (Mama G), Osita Iheme (Paw Paw), Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki), Mercy Johnson, Rachel Okonkwo (NKOLI), Destiny Etiko, and others.

A documentary showcasing the life and legacy of John Okafor will be featured during the event.

The night of tribute on June 26 will be preceded by a novelty match on June 25 between celebrities and Rangers International football club of Enugu at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

The Committee cautioned against maligning Mr. Ibu’s reputation and urged individuals spreading false information to refrain from such actions to avoid divine retribution.

Clarifying the fundraising efforts, Ani stated that it is customary in Igbo culture for well-wishers to contribute towards burial expenses, including financial support, logistics, and even live cattle.

Ani expressed gratitude to the Enugu State Government and other supporters for their assistance, including accommodations, security personnel, mobility, and financial contributions.
