The Association of Lagos Titled Chiefs Welcomes New Leaders

In a recent development, the Association of Lagos Titled Chiefs, a non-political organization comprising honorary chiefs and prominent members of the Lagos community, has elected Chief Dr Kesington Adebutu as its President and Chief Dr Opral Mason as the Vice President.

A statement signed by the association’s General Secretary and Aare Onimo Ero of Lagos, Chief Olawumi Gasper, announced the unanimous election of Adebutu and the VP at the association’s latest regular meeting.

The transition in leadership follows the passing of the association’s former President, Chief Dr Mrs Iyabode Muheenat Foresythe, Iya Abiye of Lagos, in February 2024.

Acknowledging the contributions of past presidents and founders, the association recognized their role in driving economic development in Lagos through initiatives in both the public and private sectors.

Notable past presidents mentioned include Chief Sir Dr Kofo Abayomi – Babasale of Lagos; Chief Abiola Akerele – Lisa of Lagos; Chief G B A Coker; Chief Dr Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi – Mayegun of Lagos; Chief Sir Molade Okoya-Thomas Asoju Oba, President (2012-2015); and Chief Dr Mrs Iyabode Foresythe – Iya Abiye, President (2015-2024).

Grateful for the opportunity to lead, the newly elected President, Adebutu, expressed his pride and commitment to serving alongside esteemed individuals in Lagos.

He accepted the responsibility with humility and vowed to uphold the trust placed in him by all the titled chiefs of Lagos. Adebutu also extended his appreciation to the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, for his support and shared interest in the progress of Lagos communities.

The association had raised concerns last year regarding the rise in incidents of attacks by traffic robbers, particularly at traffic light junctions on the Island.

In September 2023, Chief Gasper highlighted the chiefs’ commendation for the launch of “Operation Flush” by the state police command, aimed at reducing the prevalence of traffic robberies in the Lagos metropolis.
