The arrest of robbery suspects leads to the recovery of firearms, stolen vehicles, and more

Several suspects involved in car theft, armed robbery, and homicide were apprehended by operatives from the Zone 7 Police Command Headquarters overseeing the Federal Capital Territory. The joint operation with the Niger State Police Command resulted in the recovery of stolen vehicles, firearms, laptops, and other items based on actionable intelligence.

In a statement from the zone’s Police Public Relations Officer, M.B Abdulkadir, released at the Command Headquarters in Abuja and shared by the Nigeria Police Force’s X handle on Wednesday, it was revealed that four suspects – Solomon Nuhu (22), Faruk Umar (17), Bolaji Yusuf (34), and Lawal Yusuf (38) were arrested for various crimes including car theft, robbery, possession of illegal firearms, murder, and criminal conspiracy.

Abdulkadir mentioned, “Through actionable intelligence, police detectives from the Special Investigation Squad of the Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja successfully captured Haruna Akubo alias Young Alhaji, and recovered five suspected stolen vehicles from L.Y Nadabo Motors near One Man Village Shopping Centre, Karu LGA of Nasarawa State.”

“Two more suspects, Bolaji Yusuf, 34, and Abubakar Umar, were apprehended at Heart Plaza, Maraba, where Bolaji was found in possession of two vehicle master keys, three stolen phones, and a bunch of car keys. Further investigation led to the discovery of 32 phones of different brands and a 9mm Beretta pistol with live ammunition in Faruk Umar’s possession. The pistol was traced back to Solomon Nuhu who claimed to have bought it from Faruk Umar for N130,000.”

Recovered vehicles

According to the statement, police detectives also found stolen vehicles in the Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State where five cars, including a Lexus IS 250 whose owner was reportedly killed during the theft, were recovered. The alleged killer, Ibrahim Umar alias Godiya, is currently on the run.

A total of 10 vehicles with altered chassis numbers, along with laptops, and mobile phones, were confiscated from the criminal group. The Assistant Inspector-General of Police for the zone, Ogundele Ayodeji, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case and promised that the suspects would face legal prosecution.

“Ayodeji urges law-abiding residents of the FCT to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities to the police, and trust that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to safeguarding lives and property.”
