The absence of Nigerian players in the CAF Team of the Year sparks controversy

No Nigerian player was included in the 11-man team announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) during its annual end-of-year awards gala in Albatros Citadel Sahl Hasheesh, Hurghada, Egypt on Tuesday night.

The CAF Team of the Year featured top names including Mo Salah of Egypt and Liverpool, Mahrez of Man.City/Algeria, and Saido Mane of Senegal/Liverpool. However, it did not include any Nigerian players such as Odion Ighalo, Samuel Chukwueze, Wilfred Ndidi, and Victor Osimhen who had outstanding performances in 2019.

Other notable players in the CAF Team of the Year are Onana of Ajax, Joel Matip of Liverpool, and Pierre Aubameyang of Arsenal.
