France is set to face Spain in the gold medal match of the men’s football event at the 2024 Olympics. The host team mounted a comeback to secure a 3-1 victory over Egypt in the second semi-final of the tournament.
The opening goal was scored by Mahmoud Saber in the second half, but Jean-Phillipe Mateta equalized for France late in the game. Mateta then put France in the lead during extra time, and Michael Olise sealed the win with a well-taken finish.
In the first semi-final, Juanlu Sanchez secured a dramatic 85th-minute winner to give Spain a 2-1 victory over Morocco. Despite Morocco taking a 1-0 lead into halftime with a penalty converted by Soufiane Rahimi in the 37th minute, Spain managed to level the score in the 65th minute with a left-footed strike from Fermin Lopez.
