'Tennis Legend, Serena Williams Struggles on Court’ – Coach Patrick Mouratoglou Speaks Out

Recent losses have put pressure on Serena Williams coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who has emphasized the need for change.

Serena Williams, the American 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, 38, has faced setbacks, losing four major finals since returning to tennis after giving birth to her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., on Sept. 1, 2017, with the goal of breaking Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

Reflecting on her inability to break the record, her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, who has been working with her since 2012, highlighted the necessity for a shift in strategy. He believes that a change in approach and goals is imperative for her success.

Mouratoglou expressed his views in an interview with BBC Sport, stating: “We have to accept the fact that it is not working. Maybe come back with a different angle, a different strategy and different goals so she can make it.”

He went on to say, “Her level is good enough, but we have to understand what is going on and why she is not able to win one. There is a big difference between reaching a final and winning one.”

Assessing her recent performance at the Australian Open, Mouratoglou admitted that the results were unexpected and emphasized the mental and physical efforts Serena has made to return to the game following her personal milestones. He remains optimistic about her potential to achieve more Grand Slam victories.
