Tech Entrepreneurs in Lagos Plea for Cancellation of Nationwide Protest in Nigeria

An appeal has been made by tech entrepreneurs in Lagos State, operating under the Nigerian Tech Community (NTC), urging Nigerians to reconsider the upcoming nationwide protests.

Reports from NewsNow have revealed that Nigerian youths are preparing for large-scale protests throughout the country starting on August 1 to address the prevailing harsh conditions in Nigeria.

Despite concerns raised over security and pleas to cancel the protests, the organizers remain resolute in their decision to move forward with the demonstrations.

However, the tech entrepreneurs in Lagos voiced their concerns in a statement issued by the President-General, Benedict Aguele, stating that the protests pose a significant threat to the nation’s digital economy.

Aguele expressed apprehension over the possibility of foreign interests funding these demonstrations, which could have severe repercussions on the tech industry.

“While we acknowledge the challenges faced by Nigerians, we must also consider the potential disruption these protests could cause to the fragile economic advancements we have achieved,” Aguele emphasized.

“Preserving the stability of our nation is paramount, especially in the tech sector, which plays a pivotal role in driving growth. The impact of violent protests on our industry can be extensive and detrimental.

“Violent protests have the capacity to disrupt the delicate infrastructure supporting our digital economy. Critical tech assets such as data centers and network infrastructure are at risk of damage or destruction, leading to widespread service outages and disruptions,” he added.
