This came after the Iranian government admitted to shooting down a Ukrainian jetliner, killing over 100 people. The protesters chanted 'death to the dictator' and 'you are the real ISIS'. Instagram to Remove Posts Supporting Slain Iranian General Soleimani, Citing Compliance with US Sanctions

Instagram and its parent company, Facebook, have announced that they will delete posts supporting or giving credence to the slain Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in order to comply with strict US sanctions against the Iranian regime.   Last April, Instagram deleted Soleimani's account following the US State Department's designation of the Iran Revolutionary Guards Corps, led by Soleimani, as a terrorist organization. The platform has now taken further steps to prevent anti-US or pro-Soleimani propaganda from being posted.                            Instagram is among the few Western social media platforms accessible in Iran. In contrast, Facebook and Twitter are blocked in the country due to being American companies perceived to promote American interests. Some Iranians use VPNs to ...

'Defecting to Europe: Iran’s Sole Female Olympic Medalist’s Bold Declaration Against Her Country’s Policies'

Iran's only female Olympic medalist, Kimia Alizadeh, has permanently left her country for Europe amid anti-government protests in cities across Iran and international pressure following the accidental shooting down of a Ukrainian flight, claiming 176 lives.                        At 21 years old, Alizadeh made history as the first Iranian woman to win an Olympic medal, securing taekwondo bronze in the -57kg category at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She is immensely popular in her country.   Adhering to Iran's strict Muslim customs, she competed at the Rio Olympics wearing a headscarf over her taekwondo uniform and protective gear.   In a very tough decision, Alizadeh felt 'used' by the Iranian government, stating they had been manipulating her and millions of Iranian women...

Following a more than an hour in detention, he was then released. Appointed to the Ambassador role in April 2018, Rob Macaire replaced Nicholas Hopton. Iranians have been protesting in Tehran, calling for the resignation of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei following the regime's admission of mistakenly shooting down a civilian passenger plane.
